Product Compliance Specialist
The Product Compliance Specialist brings expertise in assessing product compliance, supporting cross-functional teams to integrate regulatory requirements, ensuring product safety, maintaining documentation, and minimising compliance risks across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Legislation Monitoring: Track and interpret regulatory requirements related to raw materials, product development, manufacturing, and labeling, ensuring stakeholders receive accurate compliance guidance.
- Product Safety: Stay updated on product safety concerns related to substances present or potentially present in products, identifying necessary compliance testing requirements.
- Material Vetting: Assess raw materials for compliance and advise on ensuring new materials meet regulatory standards.
- Customer Inquiries: Address product compliance inquiries from customers, providing technical responses and investigating implications.
- Compliance Responses: Develop standardised responses for common compliance inquiries where applicable.
- Process Improvements: Identify and propose process enhancements, collaborating with management to resolve compliance issues.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with departments such as R&D, Quality, Sales, Procurement, Legal, and Manufacturing to address compliance needs.
- Lab Coordination: Collaborate with external laboratories on compliance testing and additional controls.
- Record Keeping & Audits: Maintain compliance records and support customer or regulatory audits as required.
- Quality Management System: Update departmental procedures to align with the company's Quality Management System.
- Project Involvement: Participate in specific compliance-related projects as directed by the manager.
- Regulatory Documentation: Manage regulatory files, including confidentiality, and prepare compliance documentation as required.
- Database Management: Develop and update regulatory databases to ensure accurate information.
Education & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry or a related field with a chemistry focus.
- Relevant Industry Experience: Ideal industries include:
- Paper/nonwoven industry and/or plastics and polymer manufacturing
- Food and packaging, particularly food-contact products
- Pharmaceuticals, tobacco, cosmetics, hygiene, or healthcare sectors
- Experience: 3-5 years in a similar or related compliance role; familiarity with a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Experience with regulations like FDA Title 21, EU 10/2011, Health Canada regulations, and REACH; previous customer-facing experience is an advantage.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel; experience with product safety management systems and compliance software is beneficial.
