Controls Engineering Manager
Our client is a market-leading water and wastewater treatment organisation.
The Controls Engineering Manager is a full-time position based in Milpitas, California. This position reports to the Director of Operations and will lead a small team of 2-3 people to perform control engineering duties such as control panel design, component specification, HMI and PLC programming, new product development, and factory acceptance testing. Our projects cover a diverse range of disciplines that offer many avenues for professional growth and experience. As part of the engineering team, you will support product lines through sustaining engineering initiatives and new designs for various applications. We work as a tight-knit team, collaborating with each other to achieve the best product possible. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a team-centric personality, strong communication skills, and experience in control panel design and programming.
Essential Job Functions:
• Lead and manage the Controls Engineering team.
• Design and program industrial control panels and systems.
• Manage drawing library for control panel schematics.
• Manage program library for control systems.
• Review project specifications as they pertain to electrical and control panel design.
• Assist with project submittal processes and meet with customers to resolve design issues.
• Create and manage bills of material for control panels and products.
• Write work instructions for manufacturing assembly and testing processes.
• Work with the manufacturing department on all product lines to incorporate redlines and updates.
• Research and test new instrumentation and devices that can be incorporated into our system designs.
• Provide testing support for control panels.
• Determine proper parameter settings for various electrical components such as VFDs, voltage monitors, and sensor transmitters.
• Communicate with vendors to provide clarification and details for fabrication.
• Troubleshoot field-related service issues for electrical systems.
• Provide technical support to both PSI team members and customers.
• Comply with PSI safety and personal protective equipment policies while working at company facilities and customer sites.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
• Experience with industrial control systems - PLCs, VFDs, AC/DC motor controls and pump systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D.
• Ability to interpret schematics.
• Strong electrical, technical, and troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of NFPA and UL standards.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work well with others with minimal supervision.
• Excellent technical writing skills and strong written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Demands
• Ability to sit for long periods of time.
• Physical ability to perform work in a standing, stooping, sitting, or bending position for extended periods of time.
• Regularly stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to look at computer monitors for much of the workday.
Work Environment
• Approximately 5-10% of Customer Jobsites - May be exposed to a variety of weather elements as well as areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, chemicals, and industrial facilities.
• Exposure to various liquid and dry chemicals and substances associated with water and wastewater treatment applications
• Approximately 90% Office.
• Approximately 5-10% of Light Industrial – May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, chemicals, and industrial facilities.
• Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.
